SPACE ACTIVATORS UNITE

The way Alena shows up in public space is by pushing a Black Futurist platform & lens that addresses systematic racism. We honor our mission by activating spaces with art installations and hiring artists from the collective to lead projects and work together to accomplish powerful creative solutions.

FRDM: Reclaiming Our Liberation

Freedom has always been a journey. Our fearless ancestor, Harriet Tubman, escaped enslavement only to return and guide others to liberation through the Underground Railroad. Today, the question of our freedom remains just as urgent as we continue to navigate the systemic barriers faced by the African Diaspora.

At ALENA Museum, we recognize the ongoing challenges to our collective liberation. FRDM, our latest activation, invites you to explore the concept of freedom—both historically and in your personal journey. How conscious are we of the ways our freedom is still being contested? How do we reclaim it?

“FIND YOUR PURPOSE”

A Public Art Installation Honoring Nia Wilson
September 2, 2018

Oakland and communities across the nation have been devastated by the onslaught of violence directed at the Black community and toward Black youth in particular. The murder of Nia Wilson at the MacArthur BART station was the latest in this string of violence. Once Nia was killed, rallies and vigils spread throughout Oakland, making these injustices visible. Organizers demanded action from the city, BART, and the police department. Several memorials, protests and actions have happened since Nia’s murder and these actions will continue. These actions are testament to Oakland’s spirit of resistance.

THIS IS OAKANDA

August 10, 2018

"This is Oakanda" at Lake Merritt in Downtown Oakland. A community celebration featuring art installations, dance, and live musical performances. This is Oakanda highlights the resistance spirit of Oakland, which was featured in Ryan Coogler’s (an Oakland native) film Black Panther.

ALENA Museum is a platform where artists drive cultural transformation through dynamic space activations that challenge narratives, reclaim space, and envision a liberated future. By centering artists in the movement, we create immersive experiences that inspire dialogue, disrupt the status quo, and use creativity as a force for social change. Through collaboration and innovation, we ensure that art remains at the heart of shaping a better tomorrow. To date we’ve worked w/ 30+ artists locally and globally.
